SkinCeuticals

Advanced Skincare - prevention, protection and correction

To maintain and improve skin health, an effective skincare regime must contain three fundamental elements -- prevention, protection, and correction. SkinCeutical's product philosophy and educational programs are built around these principles. Their line of advanced skincare products is designed to prevent future damage, protect healthy skin, and correct previous damage. At SkinCeuticals, achieving results means more than restoring youthful, radiant skin -- it means preventing serious skin conditions, like skin cancer.

Their formulations are based on optimal concentrations of active ingredients elegantly crafted into functional products -- designed, formulated, and tested for effectiveness. They use pure, pharmaceutical grade ingredients with proven scientific results. Their entire skincare program works as a complete system for maximum improvement to skin health.

Cleanse and tone
Formulated to meet the exacting standards of skincare professionals, SkinCeuticals cleansers and toners include a variety of active ingredients such as hydroxy acids, botanical extracts, and cleansing agents to lift impurities and oils, gently exfoliate dead skin cells, and balance pH levels. Our cleansing and toning products leave the skin feeling fresh and clean without increased dryness or oiliness.

Prevent
Skincare research shows that aging skin is the result of more than just years on the calendar. Exposure to environmental elements like sunlight, smoke, and air pollution causes photoaging in skin. Not only does this lead to the formation of lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation - it can lead to more serious skin conditions, including skin cancer.

A comprehensive antioxidant program can help prevent photoaging and the onset of more serious skin conditions. Topical antioxidants have now been shown to provide up to four times the skin’s natural protection from UV damage. Sunscreens are also an important part of the prevention process, although they cannot do it alone. Antioxidants protect your skin from the sun in ways that sunscreens can’t.

When used together, antioxidants and sunscreens provide almost complete photoprotection - preventing photoaging, preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and promoting good skin health.

Correct
Over time, regardless of lifestyle, skin begins to change. Signs of aging may appear. Fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, and loss of elasticity become more visible. These signs can be the result of collagen breakdown, slower cell-turnover, and loss of moisture. Damage is intensified by sun exposure, environmental assaults, and smoking. SkinCeuticals Corrective Products combine reparative, lightening, and exfoliating ingredients to help rehabilitate the skin, restoring a healthier and more youthful appearance. The category includes products formulated specifically for delicate areas such as the eyes and lips.

Moisturise
SkinCeuticals moisturizers are carefully formulated with multi-functional ingredients that nourish, protect, and/or exfoliate as they hydrate and restore elasticity. Our moisturizers are designed to maximize ingredient synergies and provide optimal benefits to the skin.

Protect
Our sunblocks provide true broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. This revolutionary line contains Z-Cote®, transparent zinc oxide, which protects skin from the damaging UVA rays proven to be responsible for premature signs of aging. Unlike the pasty white zinc oxide sunscreens of the past, SkinCeuticals sunblocks are cosmetically elegant and all-encapsulated, which means increased protection using fewer sunscreen ingredients, reducing the chances of irritation.

Body
SkinCeuticals body products contain nurturing blends of exclusive ingredients to exfoliate, moisturize, and improve skin tone and color. Our products work together to provide benefits such as hydration, antioxidant protection, increased smoothness, and restored elasticity to the entire body.

FURTHER USEFUL INFORMATION

What are Combination Antioxidants?
They are vitamins that neutralize free radicals in the skin; this helps to protect the skin's structure. When formulated correctly, single antioxidants such as pure Vitamin C are very effective in protecting the skin against oxidative stress.

Combinations of antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E are proven to work synergistically to provide greater protection against photo-damage.

When formulated correctly topical vitamin C + E protects against UVA and UVB damage.

Vitamin C - Scientific evidence shows decisively that different forms of vitamin C do not increase the levels of vitamin-C in the skin, they may penetrate into the epidermis but they will not be converted into a form of vitamin-C that the skin can use.

Only the pure form of vitamin-C, L- ascorbic acid, gets into the skin and must be at least 10% concentration and at an acid pH for it to be effective.

Pure vitamin-C is a powerful antioxidant that protects the aqueous parts of cells from free radical damage.

Vitamin E - (alpha tocopherol) is a powerful antioxidant that protects the top layer of skin, cell walls and cell wall structures from free radical attack. Vitamin E is important because it is a chain-reaction-ending antioxidant that stops free radical damage to skin. Similarly to vitamin C , vitamin E must be in the pure form {alpha tocopherol} when applied to the skin to allow for proper adsorption and action as an antioxidant.

What effects does SkinCeuticals Topical Have C+E have on the skin?
This serum has been proven to protect the skin against photo ageing and protects cell walls and cell wall structures from free-radical attack. When vitamin E acts as an antioxidant, vitamin C regenerates it and so makes it more effective.

Research proves that C+E together protect the formation of thymine dimers, which lead to the development of cancer. SkinCeuticals C+E also reduces sunburn cells by 70% and quadruples the skins own natural photo-protection levels. When formulated properly, antioxidant serums are absorbed into the skin and unlike sunscreen products cannot be washed off.

Sunscreens might not be as effective as you think? recent studies have concluded that users apply only one fourth to one fifth the amount of sunscreen necessary to achieve full protection - getting only SPF 3 to SPF 4 protection no matter how high the SPF is labelled!

No sunscreen fully protects against all UVA, particularly above 380 - 400nm. Furthermore, there is enormous energy in this gap between 380 - 400 nm, which generates tremendous damage to the skin structure. When sun shines on skin, the short (290 - 320 nm) UVB (burning) rays are absorbed by the epidermis. UVB is what SPF measures. UBV generates oxygen free radicals which can destroy and mutate cells and cause some skin cancers.

The longer(320 - 400 nm) UVA (ageing) go deep into the skin's dermis. UVA causes much greater oxidative stress than UVB; UVA contains thirty times more energy than UVB and generates many more oxygen-free radicals. Oxygen-free radicals are like indiscriminate bombs, destroying and/or mutating anything in their way, including collagen, elastin, proteoglycan and cells - in short they age the skin. UVA causes not only photoaging changes, but also more aggressive types of skin cancers.

What is Zinc Oxide?
Zinc oxide provides the broadest wavelength protection of any sunscreen ingredient, uniformly covering from 290 - 380 nm, thus protecting against all UVB and most of the rays when properly applied. No other sunscreen ingredient provides broader protection. Z-Cote,

A patented formulation, is a transparent form of micronised Zinc Oxide which provides against UVB rays and long UVA rays to almost 400 nm.

Is SPF important?
SPF is only a measurement of UVB rays - there is no international measurement for rays.
